For all beer geeks and connoisseurs we’re pleased to announce we’re holding a couple of Meet The Brewer talks during our Saturday afternoon session. Malcolm Irving of Irving & Co. Brewers will be holding a small talk and question & answer session.
Malcolm first wanted to become a brewer after it came up in a careers survey at school. He went to Heriot Watt University in Edinburgh and earned an Honours degree in Brewing and Distilling. His first job in Brewing was at a micro-brewery in Middlesbrough, before joining Gales Brewery in Horndean for 11.5 years in two specific posts, Quality Control Manager then Trade Quality and Packaging Brewer. He can say with pride and some sadness he brewed the very last brew that was brewed at Horndean, Gales Last Drop. On closure of Gales by Fullers, Malcolm set up his own brewery in Portsmouth, in late 2007. Irving and Co Brewers Ltd started brewing and produce 5 different beers all year round with monthly seasonals and some interesting festival specials. Currently supplying about 30 pubs on a permanent basis and another 60 or so occasionally as guest beer stockists.
We’ll hopefully have another brewer or two to announce shortly who will be joining Malcolm for the session. Cheers!
